TikTok has announced "Artist Accounts" to empower musicians and connect them with a wider audience. They serve as virtual storefronts for musicians to showcase their music, engage with fans, and amplify their presence on the app.

Artist accounts come with a suite of new features. "The Music Tab" curates catalogs for artists and automatically adds new music so fans can more easily discover their work. Meanwhile, “Behind the Song” offer fans a glimpse into the artist’s creative process, revealing what inspired the song and the story behind it. Artists are able to pin a video to the top of the sound discovery page to boost visibility, whether that be a new album release or a trending clip.

The new "Artist Tag", which appears underneath an account name, allows creators to identify themselves as artists and help them stand out among other creators. Artists must upload at least four songs to be eligible for the tag. Another tag, “New Release,” lets musicians highlight new tracks up to two weeks before their release and 30 days after. Artists can also use the tag to highlight new tracks on discovery pages of catalog sounds.

Many of the new features reflect TikTok’s larger push into streaming after launching TikTok Music, its subscription-driven streaming service earlier this year.
